North and East Melton Mowbray Distributor Road scheme

The North and East Melton Mowbray Distributor Road (NEMMDR) is a major road scheme in Leicestershire aimed at reducing congestion in the town centre, as well as supporting growth in local employment and enabling local housing delivery.

The £131m scheme is funded by the UK Government, Leicestershire County Council, the Leicester and Leicestershire Local Enterprise Partnership and developer contributions has delivered a 7.1km road with walking and cycling facilities. Works on the scheme started early in 2023 and the road opened on 17 May 2026.

Leicestershire County Council has partnered with Midlands Highway Alliance Plus  (MHA+) to deliver this road project: using their innovative frameworks that aim to provide value for money, public benefit and social value delivery.
